Strategies for the Novice Player

This section contains a playing and money management strategy for the novice or beginning player. It does not involve card counting strategies which are part of the intermediate and advanced level strategies.
Your playing strategy should follow the basic strategy with no deviations. Given a choice of single vs. multiple deck games, if possible select a single deck game with good rules (dealer stands on soft 17, no restrictions on double down). How to Bet

For single and double deck Game you need to scan the cards on the table to determine if there is an imbalance of high cards or low cards. For now, all you need to know is that the high value cards (10, J, Q, K, Ace) are player favorable cards and the small value cards (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) favor the dealer. Simply watch the cards on the table and make an estimation if the cards you see contain more high cards or low cards. For example, if you see these cards
10, 2, 5, 7, Ace, 3, 5, 6, 9
there are obviously more small cards (2, 5, 3, 5, 6) than high cards (10, Ace). Since there are more small cards than high cards on the table the opposite has to be true in the remaining cards to be dealt. When the remaining cards to be dealt are rich (or contain more) in high cards that is good for the player and you should bet more on the next hand. Likewise, if the remaining cards are rich in small cards, this is an unfavorable situation for the player and you should bet the minimum. You should continue to use the information of the cards that have been played to estimate the condition of the remaining cards (carry this information over from one round to the next).

High Value Cards vs. Low Cards

Thus if you see an excess of three high value cards vs. low cards after the first round, prior to the next deal you know the remaining cards contain an excess of three low value cards. On round two you scan the cards and estimate an excess of two high value cards vs. low. This information needs to be "added" to the information of the first round to determine the current status of the remaining cards (in this case, prior to round three the remaining cards contain five excess of low value cards vs. high). During the payout of a single deck, the condition of the remaining cards may change from neutral, to rich in high value cards, then possibly rich in low value cards depending upon how the cards fall on the table. Your goal is to watch the cards from round to round and track these imbalances of excess high or low value cards. Practice this estimation technique at home with a deck of cards. Simulate several player hands and then look at the cards to estimate if the remaining cards are neutral, rich in high cards, or rich in low cards. Check your estimation toward the end of the deck by turning the remaining cards over to see if in fact they agree with your estimate. You will be surprised with a little practice how well you can estimate the composition of cards left to be dealt. If the deck is about neutral (equal balance of high and low value cards), then make your minimum bet (assume 1 unit). Watch the aces! They are an important card for you because you get a bonus payoff on blackjacks (3 to 2). If you haven't seen any aces after a couple of rounds of play and the deck is still neutral, increase your bet to 2 units. If the remaining cards in the deck in your estimation contain a disproportionate amount of small cards, either bet your minimum (1 unit) or more preferably, don't bet at all.
